How-to: Style a Kimono!

17:03:00

Heya,

I have created this post on a request from one of lovely readers!

As you may know one of the statement Trends this Summer is Kimonos. You  find them everywhere, however it can be hard to know how and what to wear them with! That is where I can help. In this post I shall provide you with 4 different ways in which a Kimono can be styled.

1. Beach Cover-up

A simple way to wear a kimono is when on the beach over you Bikini or One-piece! Whether you are just chilling in the sun or walking over and across the beach to a store, a kimono can provide you with a perfect cover-up to take some of the sun intensity off your skin and make you feel more comfortable.

A longer line and simple Kimono would be more beneficial in this circumstance as it provides more cover when being worn as a cover-up and also looks more subtle and fit to purpose.

Try to choose a Kimono that features colours in your Swim-Suit or if you have  plain Swim wear choose a complimentary colour!

Here are my favourites:

2. Summer's Evening

On one of those British Summer's evenings when it starts to get a bit chilly and you need a little something to cover your shoulders, a slightly thicker Kimono is perfect. Luckily, under New Looks Kimono range you will find Blazer style kimonos! Plus the non-sheer Kimonos provide a little extra warmth when it is needed. Whether you are just out for an evening stroll, a meal out or a celebration they look fab and keep any look on trend!

They can we worn with Jeans, Trousers, Skirts, Dresses or Shorts! When choosing your evening kimono keep in mind the purpose and look you want to go for. As they are primarily floral, keep the rest of your look  to a minimum colour-wise and try to go for clothes with no prints or patterns. This will ensure you do not look over dressed and appear glamorous and sophisticated.

3. Casual Day Out

On a warm Summer's day a Kimono is a great asset to any simple outfit. When dressing casual in the Summer, you may love to wear a pair of denim shorts and a plain top, but just find its not enough to make you feel on trend. This is the perfect time for a Kimono!

The look that I love and have based this style on Is the outfit that Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella) wore when in Italy. She went for a fringed kimono worn with a white crop and high-rise denim shorts with little pixie/ankle booties! Of course in this outfit the main staple is the Kimono. This look can easily be re-created to suit your individual tastes and preferences!

I believe that this look looks great with kimonos made of a sheer material to give it a even summery and girly look!

Here are my favourites:

4. Work/Office Wear

A kimono can even be dressed up to suit the expectations of Office Wear! This look is fairly simple to create and recreate depending on your style and preferences!

When choosing a kimono to wear to the office drift towards the darker, subtler colours that will affirm the expectations of office wear. Team your chosen Kimono with black trousers of any cut, depending on your usual cut or a black pencil/ straight cut skirt. This part of the outfit is what provides the professionalism in the look. If your Kimono features more than one colour, pick one of the colours out and use this as the colour of your top. If your kimono features only one colour, or you feel a little less brave, go for a black or white top.

As the Kimono is the key item in the look, it is best if the rest of the outfit is as simple as possible, so go for plain accessories and tops.
